Leave Application
Students must seek approval for short leave of absence if they cannot attend classes on the following occasions:
| a) | On days when there are laboratory sessions |
| b) | On days when assessments (e.g. quizzes or tests) are conducted during classes |
| c) | On any other occasion that tutor(s) or lecturer(s) deem as compulsory for students' attendance. |
You will be deemed absent, and a zero mark will be awarded for any test, quiz, or assessment component missed if you do not have an approved Short Leave of Absence. | |
Application for leave on the following grounds will not be approved:
| a) | Returning to home country during festive periods e.g. Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, etc. | |
| b) | Participating in activities (in and outside campus) organized by student bodies during the hours when students are required to attend class | |
Type of Short Leave of Absence
Medical Leave | If you are unwell and have a Medical Certificate (MC), please complete and submit the e-form within 7 working days from the date of your medical leave. Late submissions will be REJECTED. Appeals will be considered under the following circumstances: 1. The MC was submitted to the Course Coordinator or Tutor within the stipulated deadline. 2. You were hospitalised for an extended period. 3. You are a freshman in the first semester with School of MAE Important Note: The University only recognizes medical certificates issued in Singapore by Medical Practitioners registered with the Singapore Medical Council or Dental Officers registered with the Singapore Dental Council. |
Compassionate Leave | Students will be granted leave in the event of the demise of an immediate family member (defined to include parents, parents-in-law, spouse, children, siblings and grandparents). Students must complete and submit the e-form with supporting documents. Leave of absence on compassionate ground will be granted within 7 days of the death, and inclusive of Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday, and on the day of the funeral. |
Others (Representing University/Country or Extenuating Circumstances) | For the applications to be considered, students must complete and submit the e-form with supporting documents; at least 7 working days in advance. Students should not go on leave until formal approval has been given. |
Application Process
- Please complete and submit the e-form here
- If you miss any compulsory classes, assessment (e.g. quizzes or tests) or laboratory sessions, you must contact the Course Coordinator on the same day the session is missed for guidance. Where applicable, arrangements for an alternative or make-up session may be granted.
- Once your submission has been approved by the School, please forward the “Approved Short Leave of Absence” email to the Course Coordinator. If you do not receive the outcome via your NTU email within 5 working days from the date of your submission, please contact the school via [email protected]
- Failure to comply with the above procedures will result in you being deemed absent, and a zero mark will be awarded for any test, quiz, or assessment component missed.
- Note: The e-form is applicable to MAE undergraduate students (both full-time and part-time) only. Non-MAE students should not use this form and are advised to submit their medical certificates (MCs) to their respective schools.
Important:
Do not use this e-form for the following types of leave, as different procedures apply:
- Medical leave taken during examination periods.
- Leave taken during attachment/ internship. Please apply via the online internship system, InPlace. The Career & Attachment Office (CAO) will inform you of the outcome.
