Singapore's May Marine Fuel Sales Rise to 16-Month High
Singapore's marine fuel sales in May rose to a 16-month high, reaching 4.88 million tonnes, a 10.8% month-on-month and 1.1% year-on-year increase, due to the arrival and refuelling of more container ships, as reported by Lianhe Zaobao.
NTU School of Civil & Environmental Engineering Associate Professor Yuen Kum Fai explained that the rise in fuel prices reflects stronger shipping demand, while increased sales of biofuels and liquified natural gas show that adoption of alternative fuels is progressing as the shipping industry transitions to cleaner fuels.
