Dr Melvin Chan Publishes Article in the International Journal of Educational Research

Dr Melvin Chan, OER Research Scientist and Assistant Dean (Knowledge Management), recently published an article titled “A multilevel SEM study of classroom talk on cooperative learning and academic achievement: Does cooperative scaffolding matter?” in the International Journal of Educational Research.

The findings published in this journal article was based on the OER project “CORE 2 Research Programme: Pedagogy and Assessment”. The article provided a quantitative approach to assess the effects of the different modes of classroom talks. Five facets of classroom talks were examined and the research findings suggest that conventional recitation instruction appears to be educationally valuable when used skillfully with exploratory talk and cooperative teacher scaffolds.
