Living Well with Common Joint Pain

The course is designed to help healthcare and health-related workers, such as nurses, allied health professionals, senior activity centre staff, and health coaches, improve their skills in caring for joint pain using physiotherapy and tuina approaches.

This program aligns with recent healthcare initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of our aging population, such as Healthier SG and the National Plans for Successful Ageing. These initiatives emphasize community-based and lifestyle-oriented healthcare delivery and aim to double the number of senior activity centres in the coming years, providing elderly individuals with the support they need for their social and health needs.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
  • Acquire and retain accurate basic knowledge of joint pain (osteoarthritis)
  • Acquire evidence-based management of joint pain/ osteoarthritis
  • Acquire basic application skills of physiotherapy and adjunct modalities for treating osteoarthritis/ joint pain
  • Acquire the necessary skills sets in managing community and healthcare treatments in specialist and community clinics, and in Senior Activity Centres.
  • Enable participants to acquire the necessary skills to come up with treatment plans for patients and senior citizens on lifestyle and behavioural interventions.
As joint pain is a very common problem in the elderly population, the course focuses on teaching participants how to guide and support patients, particularly senior citizens, in managing osteoarthritic joint pains through a combination of medication compliance, lifestyle changes, and exercise and diet management. These holistic strategies are not typically covered in basic training and will enhance the participants' skills and competencies in chronic disease intervention.
This programme is suitable for those working/ intending to work in the sports or sports health industry. Prior knowledge in first aid will be an advantage.
