NTU researchers develop a cloud BIM-based digital logistics management with vision-enhanced luffing crane system

A NTU research team lead by Professor Robert Tiong (CEE) and co-PI Assistant Professor Holden Li (MAE) and co-PI Ng Kian Wee (JTC), with collaboration with Kimly Construction Pte Ltd developed and implemented a cloud BIM-based digital logistics management with vision-enhanced luffing crane system at the JTC Logistics Hub @ Gul construction site. The work receives Gold Award in BCA Awards 2021- Integrated Design Delivery (IDD) Project Category.

Congratulations!

The system automates precast element logistics management, tracking and improves safety of hoisting processes. The system consists of a fully integrated end-to-end 4G IoT enabled logistics tracking system with real-time SMS notifications for precast elements from production to installation at the site and a high definition camera enabled ‘networked’ luffing crane with first-in-Singapore fibre optic connectivity. The system is integrated with a cloud BIM database allowing for up-to-date information flow throughout the construction progress to be visible on a NTU’s real time web-based dashboard. The real-time tracking, monitoring, forecasting and reporting processes illustrated a beneficial Integrated Digital Delivery use cases at JTC Logistics Hub Project.
