"Biophotonics: Light up MedTech Innovation" by Dr Bi Renzhe| IAS@NTU STEM Graduate Colloquium

23 Jun 2023 11.00 AM - 12.30 PM LT 7, North Spine (NS1-02-03) Alumni, Current Students, Industry/Academic Partners, Prospective Students, Public

This talk will introduce some of the recent development in novel biophotonics technologies, including photoacoustic imaging, confocal Raman spectroscopy and diffuse optics. The concept and principle of these optical technologies will be briefly shared. Their clinical translation will be introduced based on real clinical examples. Dr Bi will also share some of his personal experience in MedTech R&D.

Dr Bi Renzhe’s research focused on development of novel biophotonics technologies and medical technology innovations. To date, he has 36 scientific publications, 4 granted patents and 11 patent applications. 3 of his patents have been assigned or licensed to Singpore-based MedTech companies.

His inventions were translated into medical devices that help surgeons to monitor the foot blood flow during lower limb surgery, hospitals to track patients’ breathing remotely, and dermatologists to evaluate skin eczema more precisely. He won the prestigious 2022 Young Scientist Award for his contributions in MedTech innovation.
