NTU-CEE Seminar Series: Associate Professor He Chao
Organized By
CEE Seminar Committee
Host By
Professor Lim Teik Thye
Topic
Development of Integrated Bio-Refineries for Co-Production of Advanced Biofuels, Bio-Chemicals and Biomaterials
About the Seminar
This seminar talk will focus on circular economy innovation by developing and enabling low-carbon clean technologies for sustainable waste management and bio-refineries based on multidisciplinary sciences in environmental and energy engineering, thermochemical and physicochemical processes, chemical reaction engineering, materials design and applied catalysis.
This talk mainly covers CEI’s latest research and technology advances in three topics:
- Urban solid waste management;
- Resource recovery from waste streams (e.g., critical/strategical raw materials, high value-added energy carriers and chemicals);
- Renewable energy production from wastewater and biomass wastes.
About the Speaker
He Chao is an Associate Professor of Bio and Circular Economy in Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University, Finland. Dr. He holds Academy Research Fellowship funded by the Research Council of Finland. Dr. He acts as chairman of Finnish Thermal Energy Research Association (FTERA) and university representative of the International Water Association and Water Europe.
His Circular Economy Innovation research group (CEI) focuses on developing resource-wise decarbonisation processes, technologies, and catalysts for energy conversion and nutrients recycling from sewage sludge, sustainable management of municipal solid wastes, biorefinery of biomass wastes, and recovery of critical raw materials from various waste streams. Dr. He was awarded 2015 Applied Energy Award and has been listed the World's Top 2% Scientists by Elsevier/Stanford University since 2020.
