Mass Spectrometry Facility

Mass Spectrometry Icon

The Mass Spectrometry Core Facility provides mass spectrometry–based analytical services to support research within the Nanyang Technological University community, external academic and research institutions, as well as industry partners.

Our facility specializes in biomolecular characterization and proteomics analysis, offering reliable solutions for molecular weight determination, protein identification, and analysis of samples from diverse biological sources. By combining advanced instrumentation with dedicated technical expertise, we support researchers across multiple disciplines in achieving high-quality results. As research needs continue to evolve, we are committed to expanding our capabilities and developing new services to better support the scientific community.

Routine Services

Our routine services provide reliable and high-quality mass spectrometry analysis to support a broad range of biological and biochemical research applications.

  • Protein Identification (In-Gel Analysis)
Identification of proteins from gel bands or spots following SDS-PAGE or related separation methods.
  • Shotgun Proteomics / In-Solution Protein Identification
Comprehensive identification of proteins from complex samples such as cell lysates, tissue extracts, and co-immunoprecipitation experiments. In addition to conventional in-solution digestion, we also offer on-bead digestion workflows for immunoprecipitation (IP) samples.
  • Molecular Weight Determination
Accurate determination of the molecular weight of intact proteins, peptides and biomolecules in solution using LC-MS mass spectrometry.
  • Post-Translational Modification (PTM) and Chemically Derived Modification Analysis
Detection and characterization of protein modifications including phosphorylation, acetylation, ubiquitination, glycosylation site identification, and other post-translational modifications (PTMs). We also provide analysis of chemically derived modifications introduced during chemical reactions or experimental workflows.

Collaborative & Advanced Proteomics Services

In addition to routine analytical services, we collaborate with researchers on advanced proteomics projects requiring specialized workflows and data analysis.

  • Phosphoproteomics
Large-scale identification and analysis of protein phosphorylation sites from complex biological samples, typically cell lysates.
  • Protein Structure, Dynamics & Interaction Studies
Investigation of protein conformational changes and molecular interactions using Hydrogen/Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry (HDX-MS).
  • Quantitative Proteomics
Comparative proteome quantification using both label-based approaches (TMT, SILAC) or label-free strategies (DIA/DDA).
  • Targeted Mass Spectrometry
Relative or absolute quantification of selected biomolecules using Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) workflows.
  • De Novo Peptide Sequencing
Using the industry-leading PEAKS® platform, we derive the amino acid sequence directly from the MS/MS fragmentation patterns.
