Commentary: Why Southeast Asia should care about the 2024 elections in Taiwan
In a commentary, Asst Prof Dylan Loh from NTU’s Public Policy and Global Affairs Programme and Jeremy Huai-Che Chiang, Associate Research Fellow at the Foundation for Future Generations, Taiwan, said that ASEAN states would have to determine their response to the unfolding effects that Taiwan’s election will have on US-China relations and regional security. Due to Taiwan's strategic location and its status as a potential flashpoint between the US and China, the outcome of the 2024 presidential election in Taiwan will have implications for both cross-strait ties and US-China rivalry.
