Dual message: Exerting military might, Xi says China's role is 'making, securing, protecting peace'

As Xi Jinping seeks to "highlight his strength at home and growing influence on the world stage," FRANCE 24's Genie Godula welcomes Dylan Loh Ming Hui, Associate Professor in the School of Social Sciences at NTU. Dr Loh says that Xi's message 'landed quite successfully, particularly with members of the Global South" as well as other world leaders in attendance. He sees the pulling power China is demonstrating as a "testament to China's growing diplomatic clout". He said the military parade and Xi’s choice of words send a dual message – that China has the means if push comes to shove, but they will stick to their role of being the peacemaker.
