Engineering Innovation and Design (EID) Showcase 2026
Every year, MAE's Year 2 students are given a problem statement and a semester to solve it.
No templates. No prescribed answers. Just a problem, a team, and a semester to figure it out.
The Engineering Innovation and Design module, known as EID, is a core part of the MAE undergraduate journey. It asks students to move from theory into practice, taking what they have learned in lecture halls and making it work in the real world.
This year, more than 500 students took on that challenge.
More Than a Module
What makes EID distinctive is not just the technical work. Students also develop project management, communication, and design thinking through the full process of building something real. Learning to work across disciplines, manage timelines, and present ideas clearly to different audiences are skills that carry well beyond the module itself.
The annual showcase is where that work comes together. Teams present their projects to alumni judges, industry partners, and peers, and get the kind of feedback that only comes from people working in the field.
This year's exhibition was held on Saturday, 16 May 2026.
This Year's Showcase
Fifty-six project teams presented across five categories: Assistive Technologies, Design and Innovation, Home and Living, Lifestyle, and Safety and Health.
The projects addressed a wide range of real-world problems. One team built a smart medication dispenser to help patients manage complex dosing schedules. Another developed a remote-controlled flood disaster response robot for conditions too dangerous for human entry. A third created a shoreline cleanup boat powered by seawater-activated magnesium energy, with no batteries or fuel required.
Alumni judges from industry evaluated each category, offering practical feedback grounded in professional experience. The event was supported by the James Dyson Foundation, ST Engineering, and Beecharge Innovation Group.

What EID Develops
The projects change every year. The purpose behind EID does not. The module aims to develop engineers who are technically grounded and also able to manage a project, work with people from different backgrounds, and communicate their ideas clearly.
The showcase brings students into direct contact with industry professionals and alumni, creating a space where real feedback meets real work.
