Imperial – NTU Workshop: Global communication and collaboration competencies

Interdisciplinary and intercultural collaborations are key competencies in the academic life of a doctoral student, and beyond. This workshop, designed and delivered in partnership with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, focuses on the enhancement of those competencies.

This workshop will allow doctoral students from Imperial and NTU to experience real-life international and interdisciplinary collaborations, providing a unique opportunity for networking and developing competencies for a successful future career.

Participants from Imperial and NTU will be encouraged to develop avenues for continuing collaboration and to explore possibilities for research visits and placements under institutional exchange schemes.
Intended learning outcomes.

On completion of the workshop, and with the material provided, participants will enhance:

  • Their interdisciplinary and international competency and awareness
  • Their competencies to network and communicate effectively and with impact in interdisciplinary and international groups
  • Their competencies to work collaboratively
  • Their appreciation of research in an international context

 

Workshop dates
The workshop will be fully online and will be composed of 3 parts:

  1. Welcome event: 2 hours, from 4 p.m. to 6 p..m SG time (9 a.m. to 11 a.m. UK time), in the week of 5th to 9th October (date to be finalised).
  2. Session 1 - International and interdisciplinary communication: Monday 19th October from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. SG time (9 a.m. to 12 p.m. UK time)
  3. Session 2 - Interdisciplinary collaboration: Monday 26th October from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. SG time (9 a.m. to 12 p.m. UK time)

Between the 2 sessions, participants will work in groups and will briefly meet every day to coordinate the group work.
Participants are expected to actively attend the 3 parts and actively participate in the group work.
