Singapore-UK collaboration on Intelligent Photonics

In this new video, scientists at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and the University of Southampton (UK) present their collaborative research on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in photonics.

AI may be the most important new methodology in scientific research since the adoption of quantum mechanics. Photonics is an ideal platform for AI because Maxwell’s equations  for electromagnetism can generate reliable sources of training data for deep learning algorithms. The researchers in the video describe their use of AI to make breakthroughs such as optical imaging and metrology at molecular resolutions.
