Global Exposure
Nanyang Business School (NBS) emphasises international exposure as a core element of our business education. We strive to develop leaders with a global perspective, drawing on NTU’s strong international reputation and global networks. ACE continually partners with employers with a global footprint to enable rich immersive experiences for our business undergraduates through overseas internships and business study missions. In so doing, ACE empowers students with cross‑border insights and culturally agile leadership capabilities.

“Over the course of 10 weeks, I immersed myself in both upstream and downstream operations at Oil Palm companies. From nursery operations and palm maintenance to the complexities of palm oil production, I was able to contribute by streamlining data processes and enhancing operational efficiencies at the Sango Bay Project. This hands-on exposure has not only deepened my understanding of the commodities sector but also opened my eyes to the vast opportunities within this industry.
Beyond the technical skills, this experience broadened my perspective on the global impact of commodities and reinforced the importance of sustainable practices.”

“The internship was extremely eye-opening and meaningful. It was highly relevant to my International Trading Programme (ITP), as it provided real global exposure and allowed me to understand how agricultural business operations function in general.
Beyond technical knowledge, the experience helped me develop important life skills such as cooking independently, fishing, and navigating using maps in a rural environment. I also strengthened my soft skills, particularly communication, adaptability, and collaboration, as I worked with colleagues and workers from fundamentally different cultural and social backgrounds. The experience pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me become more independent and resilient.
Be open-minded and step out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to explore unfamiliar environments or take on challenging opportunities, even if they seem daunting at first. An overseas internship, especially in the Africa, may not always be easy, but the experiences, perspectives, and personal growth you gain will be invaluable and will stay with you throughout your life.“

“I wanted an internship that moved beyond a traditional office setting and allowed me to see how commercial research and sales strategies are executed in challenging logistical environments. Working as a Commercial Analyst, I had the chance to travel to various provinces to understand local demand and see how branch operations functioned firsthand. It pushed me to be highly adaptable and gave me a deep appreciation for the practical side of global commerce.
The most memorable part was seeing how data translates into the movement of physical goods across adiverse geography. I learned that in international business, understanding the "vibes" and cultural context of a location is just as critical as technical analysis. Navigating the logistical complexities of the supply chain there was a masterclass in operational problem-solving!”

"I had the opportunity to spend 5 days in Ho Chi Minh City for the Sustainability Business Study Mission🌱 and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences from my time in NTU.
I think what stayed with me most was how sustainability isn’t as straightforward as what we often discuss in class. Being there made it clear how much context matters, whether it’s access to reliable data, the pace of development or simply getting people on board. It made everything feel a lot less theoretical and a lot more real.
One moment that stuck with me was our visit to GreenViet🌿. It gave me a different perspective on how change happens, not always through large scale corporate initiatives, but through consistent, ground level work with communities. That was something I didn’t fully appreciate before.
At the same time, a big part of the experience was just being in the city itself. Ho Chi Minh City has a kind of energy that you can’t really describe until you’re in it. Crossing jam-packed roads full of motorbikes🏍️, sitting in small cafés☕ and just moving through the city day by day made the whole trip feel immersive in a way that went beyond the programme itself."

"Spending five days in Ho Chi Minh City during recess week for the inaugural Sustainability Business Study Mission was an opportunity I never expected but am incredibly grateful for. Together with my AFL batchmates and our professors, we explored Vietnam’s evolving sustainability landscape and learned how companies across different industries are integrating environmental and social responsibility into their operations.
A highlight for me was visiting the Heart of Darkness Brewery, where we observed their beer manufacturing process and gained insights into how sustainability considerations can be applied even within the brewing industry, from production efficiency to responsible resource use. Throughout the trip, we also visited organisations across sectors such as textiles, food production, and sustainability consultancy, which gave us a deeper appreciation of the operational decisions behind the products we consume daily.
Beyond the company visits, experiencing the energy and culture of Ho Chi Minh City was equally memorable. The city is incredibly vibrant, from the bustling streets filled with motorbikes to the small cafés serving strong Vietnamese coffee on nearly every corner. Walking through local markets, trying dishes like bánh mì and phở, riding on motorbikes, and simply observing everyday life gave me a deeper appreciation of Vietnam’s rich culture. It was refreshing to step outside the classroom and experience a different environment, where sustainability discussions are shaped not only by business practices but also by local culture, community, and lifestyle. These moments made the trip feel even more immersive and unforgettable."

"Over the course of my time in university, I spent 18 months in Singapore and 17 months overseas across Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, and Japan, through internships and exchange programmes. These experiences shaped my university life in ways far beyond the classroom, broadening my worldview, strengthening my emotional and cultural intelligence, and accelerating my personal and character growth.
One thing I’ve deeply appreciated about Nanyang Business School is how abundant and accessible overseas work opportunities and institutional support truly are, from exchanges to overseas internships and global immersion programmes. For fellow students, I’d strongly encourage you to step out, explore these opportunities, and embrace them with an open mind. The growth you gain is well worth the leap.
From 7–12 December 2025, I took part in the NBS Work Abroad and Global Business Insight Trip to Japan, a fitting conclusion to my university journey and my last trip with NTU before graduation.
The conversations, insights, and perspectives I gained were invaluable. More importantly, they reinforced a decision I’ve been reflecting on for some time, to take the step forward and move to Japan."
