The Paradox of Cohesion Panel
The paradox of cohesion long observed by social scientists is that the formation of societies, alliances, and other arrangements is often predicated upon the exclusion of others. In some cases, social cohesion can emerge through the construction of “out groups”; in other cases, it can create advantages for a group that end up placing it at odds with other groups. This panel takes a realistic look at the challenge of creating bonds without inadvertently feeding conflict an intolerance.
