From Suzhou Industrial Park to deeper ties
Over 35 years of diplomatic ties, Singapore–China trade has grown more than 30-fold. A key pillar of Singapore-China ties is the 2008 Free Trade Agreement. The latest version, effective from 31 December 2024, gives Singapore investors greater market access and transparency. Collaboration now spans green energy and robotics, with Chinese firms like ByteDance, Shein, and iQIYI setting up regional hubs here. Emeritus Professor Tan Kong Yam from SSS noted that despite global tensions and China’s slower growth, Singapore’s sound governance and strategic position keep it a trusted gateway for China into ASEAN and beyond.
