Observers: Chan Chun Sing, Ong Ye Kung, Lawrence Wong and Desmond Lee are the most likely candidates for the next prime minister

The fourth-generation leadership team will have to elect the successor of the prime minister. Political observers pointed out that the four young ministers of the People's Action Party, Chan Chun Sing, Ong Ye Kung, Lawrence Wong, and Desmond Lee are the most likely candidates. Asst Prof Walid Jumblatt from NTU’s School of Social Sciences pointed out that this means that PM Lee may stay in office for another two or three years. He said: "The pandemic has severely disrupted the leadership turnover. Perhaps in the future we need to look at Singapore politics in a different way, not always focusing on individual leaders."
