NTU collaborates with Tan Tock Seng Hospital to develop WellFeet mobile app for diabetes patients and caregivers

NTU Expert Comment: Lianhe Zaobao online, 15 March 2024

NTU and Tan Tock Seng Hospital have collaborated to develop a mobile phone application focussing on diabetic foot care. It provides patients and caregivers with a platform in multiple languages to record their condition and equip themselves with relevant caregiving knowledge, thereby improving their daily lives. Diabetic foot ulcers are one of the most serious complications of diabetes, affecting about 19 per cent to 34 per cent of diabetes patients. According to NTU SSS and LKCMedicine Assoc Prof Andy Ho, the app will offer diabetes care tips in the form of quizzes and short videos of one or two minutes. The language is easy to understand and is available in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil to ensure that the information is accessible and easy to understand for most patients and caregivers. Dr Liew Huiling, an Endocrinologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, said that 40 of her patients and caregivers had tried the WellFeet app, and the feedback has been quite good. "When I told them this app was easy to use and specially designed for them, many were happy to try it. They remarked that they did pick up new diabetes knowledge through the app.” The team expects WellFeet to be officially launched this year. It would be recommended by doctors for use by patients and caregivers.
