Call from ‘bank’ was a scam and she lost $14k

Interpol notes that faster digital transformation during the pandemic has created more opportunities for criminals. Criminologist Olivia Choy, from NTU’s psychology department, said: “People are interacting less with one another due to safe distancing measures... this may lower the likelihood of intervention by others who may help discourage one from being a victim to a scam. She added that stress and other negative psychological effects found to be associated with physical distancing and quarantine could compromise people’s ability to make sound judgments.
