Commentary: Is Singapore prepared for the haze season?
Addressing transboundary haze poses a complex challenge beyond Singapore's immediate influence. Nonetheless, Euston Quah, the Albert Winsemius Chair Professor of Economics and Director of the Economic Growth Centre at NTU, and Nursultan Iuldashov, a research associate at NTU, suggest a shift in focus towards implementing adaptation strategies. While Singapore's jurisdiction over those responsible for transboundary haze is limited, the strategy developed from handling the pandemic has opened doors to taking more preemptive actions against the effects of such haze. Despite advancements made, there remains a need for continued endeavours to ensure the protection of individuals from the risks presented by haze pollution.
