SSS Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medallist - Priyadharshini

Caring for the heart, mind and body: Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medallist and #NTUsgClassof2023 graduate, Priyadharshini Chockalingam, has just finished a chapter in #psychology and is now aspiring to be a doctor next.

While at #NTUsg, Priya demonstrated her passion for #healthcare through her volunteer work with HealthServe’s mental health team during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her fluency in Hindi and Tamil was invaluable, aiding her in organising relief efforts for migrant workers on cruise ships and in dormitories.

Priya's journey studying psychology at the School of Social Sciences was punctuated with numerous opportunities to showcase her abilities and deepen her knowledge. Her supportive environment pushed her to her full potential and helped her excel. The support of her NTU mentors and their firm belief in her capabilities have been particularly instrumental in her success.

A highlight of Priya's NTU journey was the Overseas Programme to Luang Prabang. Conducting ethnographic research in a foreign land, she found it to be an enlightening experience: "I embarked on this adventure with a blank canvas, but I emerged with a wealth of knowledge and a profound understanding of the culture and people I encountered."

As she sets her sights on a degree in #medicine next year, she believes her psychology training has equipped her with the qualities to become an empathetic and well-rounded physician in the future. Here's wishing her all the best!
