Analysis: S'pore political culture on infidelity may be more nuanced now but many youths say cheating MPs must quit

 

This week in Singaporean politics, there were scandals involving personal conduct, and a straw poll conducted by TODAY showed that most young people believe politicians should resign if caught in extramarital affairs. Associate Professor Laavanya Khathiravelu from SSS@NTU Sociology pointed out that those who see it as a political matter might view the concealment of an extramarital affair as a breach of public trust. Assoc Prof Laavanya highlighted that the MPs involved needed to meet the expectations of the electorate.
