Plastic bag use will fall now that charge is in place: Experts
Experts believe that the implementation of charges for disposable plastic bags in major supermarkets will lead to a reduction in their usage. However, they also express concerns that this measure may not be sufficient to significantly raise environmental awareness among the public. Asst Prof Yan Jubo, from the SSS@NTU's Economics Programme, pointed out that while charging for plastic bags can indeed increase awareness, the overall impact might be limited based on observations from other countries, such as China's plastic bag ban.
