Xi Jinping urges China and Vietnam worked together to oppose breaking the chain

 

A day after US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan made a port call at Vietnam, China President Xi Jinping met and urged Vietnam’s prime minister Pham Minh Chinh that the two countries should continue to stand together to safeguard their common strategic interests and make positive contributions to regional peace and stability. NTU Asst Prof Dylan Loh, from the Public Policy and Global Affairs programme said the timing of Pham Minh Chinh's visit to China and the US aircraft carrier's port call was a ‘two-pronged strategy’ – Vietnam expressed its willingness to maintain friendly relations with the Chinese while demonstrating it had other diplomatic options.
