CPF policy, health care costs, and housing among issues worth reviewing in relation to retirement: Experts
Several economists contacted by Berita Harian said it is perhaps time to review some policies related to the Central Provident Fund (CPF) system. On what should be considered ‘enough’ for retirement, NTU’s Dr Akshar Saxena, an assistant professor of Economics, said: “If we simplify the debate, financial adequacy implies whether, in each period of time, an individual's income - whether income from work, income from interest, income from rent - is able to provide for the individual.” He hopes that there will be more support for healthcare, which he said makes up a large portion of household expenses, with the elderly and low-income groups are disproportionately affected.
