3D printing in "The challenge and the promise of the post-Covid-19 economy"

A Straits Times Covid-19 Special article on 10 May 2020, "The challenge and the promise of the post-Covid-19 economy", states that even in periods of crisis and change, there will be new opportunities and areas of growth. In a post-Covid-19 economy, manufacturing is expected to become more "low touch" in the post-Covid-19 economy, with greater emphasis on automation and other advanced technologies that could counteract Singapore's relatively high labour costs.

Besides robotics, the article also identifies 3D printing as an enabling technology that could accelerate Singapore's shift to advanced manufacturing, and even transform other industries. In particular, the article highlights that the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing's research on 3D printing a concrete Prefabricated Bathroom Unit (PBU) could potentially change the construction industry that we know of today.
