Epitaxy Growth of Emerging P-Type 2D Semiconductors by Professor Vincent Tung

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors offer an attractive materials platform for next-generation electronic, photonic, thermal, and AI hardware, but their practical deployment remains constrained by a fundamental integration challenge: high-quality single-crystalline 2D materials are typically grown on crystalline templates, whereas industrially relevant device platforms increasingly rely on amorphous dielectrics, glass, and heterogeneous packaging substrates. In this seminar, I will discuss our recent efforts to overcome this materials-level incompatibility by developing synthesis and integration strategies that enable direct growth of electronic-grade 2D semiconductors on technologically relevant amorphous surfaces.
Biography

Professor Vincent Tung
University of Tokyo
Vincent Tung completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and was an Institute for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern (ISEN) postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University. He has been a Professor at the Department of Chemical System Engineering at the University of Tokyo since July 2022. He is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, New Doctoral Investigator of ACS Petroleum Award, Research Excellence of the University of California System, and Young Scientist Award for eMRS. His research interests are in materials chemistry, processing, and epitaxy-grown two-dimensional (2D) layered materials and their vdW heterostructures for next-generation semiconductors.
