Simplifying Automation: ChemUnited Orchestration by Dr Samuel Vitor Saraiva

Abstract
In laboratory processes, automation enables precise and repeatable control of experimental procedures and seamless coordination between devices. Digital twins further enhance this capability by virtually replicating system behavior, enabling prediction, monitoring, and optimization without physical intervention. This talk introduces ChemUnited, an integrated open-source platform for user-friendly protocol orchestration and digital twin creation of automated experimental setups. The presentation covers three topics: (1) the autonomous laboratory vision driving CTC's moonshot goals, (2) the architectural approach CTC is pursuing to realize this vision, and (3) the software packages under active development, including ChemUnited and FlowChem, that form the foundation of this infrastructure. Together, these tools represent steps toward CTC's mission of a fully autonomous laboratory.

Dr Samuel Vitor Saraiva
Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC - Germany)
Dr. Samuel Vitor Saraiva is a chemical engineer and postdoctoral researcher developing open-source scientific software for self-driven laboratory systems. He holds a master's and a doctoral degree in chemical engineering from the University of Campinas (Brazil), where he specialized in automation and advanced process control. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral scientist in Automated Chemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces and is currently a researcher at the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC – Germany).
