Abstract

Science is fun but writing could be a pain. As the current Editor-in-Chief of the journal Materials Today Energy, I will share with you my experience and suggestions on how to improve your writing from various aspects, including figure preparation, cover letter, response and rebuttal to reviewers. Examples of common mistakes by junior students will be presented.

Professor Fan Hong Jin, SPMS, NTU

Professor Fan Hong Jin obtained his BSc from Jilin University in 1999 and PhD from National University of Singapore in 2003, followed by postdoctoral studies at Max-Planck-Institute of Microstructure Physics and University of Cambridge before joining NTU in 2008. His research focus is on new materials and mechanisms in energy conversion and storage processes, including electrocatalysis and aqueous batteries. He has authored 350 journal papers (H-index 122, FWCI 6.36). He has been a Highly Cited Researcher since 2016. Prof. Fan has been the Editor or part of editorial/advisory board for journals including Materials Today Energy, Energy and Environmental Sciences, Advanced Science, Small, Natl Sci Rev, eScience, etc. His hobbies include table tennis, singing and writing.
