MAEAA Family Day - Indoor Rock Climbing

On 1st December 2018, 29 MAEAA alumni and family members gathered at Climb Central, Kallang Wave mall for the MAEAA Family Day – Indoor Rock Climbing event. In the two-hour rock climbing session, alumni and family members had a great time with each other while learning the basics of rock climbing.

The morning session started with a briefing on safety systems and basic rock climbing techniques. All participants donned the necessary climbing equipment including harness and climbing shoes with the help from Climb Central instructors. Participants were then split into two groups, one group at the auto-belay platform (8 meter walls) while the other group at BelaySafe (12 meter walls).

At auto-belay platform, participants learned how to climb without partner using the automatic belay system. At the same time, participants at BelaySafe wall learned how to belay for their partners who are climbing. After that, both groups switched to learn the other system. The participants quickly learn the ropes and gained confidence throughout the guided session. Some participants even explored the more challenging routes.

Light refreshments were provided at the activity room for participants to rest and recharge. They also took the opportunity to network and make new friends. At the end of the two-hour session, everyone was exhausted but satisfied with the progress made. This session also sparked the interest of several alumni in taking up rock climbing as a hobby. All in all, it was a great morning well spent with family members and fellow alumni.
