General Information for Current MSc Students

Course Registration

Please access the NTU Student Intranet Portal for course registration, via this link.

All students are to register for themselves the course(s) they wish to study via the Graduate Course Registration System within the stipulated course registration period. It is the responsibility of all students to check and ensure that the courses are correctly registered.

Registration/ Add-Drop Period [For Existing AND New Students]

  • Research students  and Coursework students registering courses offered by other programmes of study will be placed on Waiting List, and will receive an email confirmation on their courses on 30 Jan 2024.
  • Final closing date for registration of cross-school/cross-programme courses is  23 Jan 2024. No request for registration of cross-school/cross-programme courses will be accepted after the final closing date.

  • Students may register up to 5 courses (including cross-registered courses) for FULL-TIME STUDENTS and up to 3 courses (including cross-registered courses) for PART-TIME STUDENTS.
  • All students are entitled to a maximum of 2 cross programme (optional) throughout their candidature.

Registration For Cross-School/ Cross-Programme Courses (Courses NOT offered to Student's programme of study)

  • Priority is given to Coursework students registering courses offered by their own programme of study.
  • Please take note that all cross-programme application is subjected to the approval of programme director and class size availability 
  • All registration of graduate courses outside the prescribed curriculum will have to be done online via the Graduate Course Registration System during the stipulated course registration periods.

 The table below shows the relevant dates and deadlines for cross-programme registration for all schools.

    Academic Implications - Please note:

    • All registration of courses must be completed within the stipulated period, after which students will not be allowed to add or drop any courses.
    • Students who do not register officially for courses they wish to take will not be allowed to sit for the examination.
    • A course dropped within the registration periods will not appear in the result slip and official transcript.
    • Request for course withdrawal (“W” grade) should reach MAE Graduate Studies Office by Teaching Week 10.
    • For a course that was dropped outside the registration period, and after Teaching Week 10, the student will be deemed to have sat and failed the course and a grade "F" will be reflected in his/her result slip and official transcript. 

     

     

     


     

    Examination  

    Please read the instructions to Examination Candidates carefully on OAS' Examination webpage here.

    Information on Exam Timetable can be viewed here. Please check back 2 weeks before Exam week for venues.

    Students are required to sit for an examination at the end of each semester for each of the courses registered in a particular semester. A student who does not register or who have registered but fails to take any examination for which he is eligible to sit shall be deemed to have sat and failed the examination.

    A student who is absent from an examination on medical grounds should submit the medical report through the Online MC Submission Application portal by Logging in using SSO or submit the medical report and original medical certificate to One Stop@SAC within two (2) working days of absence form the day of examination. The medical certificate must be issued by a medical practitioner who is registered with the Singapore Medical Council. The MC issued by the Medical Practitioner must indicate:

    1. MC issue date. This date must be the date of your visit
    2. The name and signature of the attending doctor
      (For digital MCs issued, ensure the attending doctor’s name is printed on the MC)


    Compassionate Leave

    In the event of death in your immediate family (defined to include parents, siblings and grandparents), you may decide whether to proceed with your scheduled examination(s). If you decide not to take the examination(s), please inform your School immediately. Leave of absence on compassionate grounds will be granted for absence from any examination(s) within 7 days of the death (starting from the day of death, and inclusive of Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday). The form for Application for Compassionate Leave for Examination duly filled up, together with a copy of the death certificate, must be submitted to One Stop @ SAC latest by the 2nd working day after the examination period.

    REGISTRATION/ SEALING OF CALCULATORS  

    • You are required to register your calculator before you can use it during the examinations.
    • Please register your calculator during the registration hours and at the venue stated below. You can authorize another person to register your calculator on your behalf.

    • If you have previously registered your calculator and the seal is intact, you are not required to re-register.
    • Please note that only calculators in the approved list can be registered. Please click HERE for the list of approved calculators.
    • Students are responsible for clearing any information and/or programs stored in the graphic calculators before the examination.

    Leave of Absence (LoA)

    Students should refer to our dedicated website for details of the academic and financial implications of students who did not submit their application for the semester Leave of Absence (LoA).

    • If you are not registering any courses in AY2023 Semester 1, please apply for LoA.
    • Students should apply for the semester LoA and be granted approval of the leave by the School before the start of the semester.
    • Students who applied LoA after the second week of the semester shall be liable for fees due for the entire semester. To retain their name in the matriculation register, a non-refundable administrative fee of $53.50 (inclusive of GST) per semester will be levied upon the approval of leave of absence.
    • For the days which you are unable to attend lectures, you will also need to apply for the leave of absence. And it is your responsibility to notify your course coordinators regarding your absence from lecture(s). This is because most of our course coordinators will hold their Continuous Assessments (CAs) during lectures and the CA marks will be counted towards your final examination grade. 
    • If you wish to apply for LoA, please download and complete the LoA Form and submit it through [email protected]All LoA application must be enclosed with valid supporting documents such as a letter from the company for an overseas trip, medical certificate etc.

    It will take at least five working days from the date of receipt of your application for processing to notifying you of the outcome of your application through your NTU student email address. 

    Programme Structure

    Option of Study

    Students enrolled in the MSc (PM) programme are allowed to choose to complete the programme of study by: 

     Option 1: Coursework and Dissertation (default); OR 

    Students must complete the eight Core courses within the programme and submit a Dissertation on an approved project. 

     Option 2: Coursework Only 

    Students must complete ten courses from the list of core and elective courses specified for the programme. 

    *Please note that MSc PM students will automatically be assigned the default Option 1 - Coursework and Dissertation.    If you wish to apply for Option 2: Coursework only, you must apply for conversion using the Application for Conversion of Option of Study Revised Jan 2024 form. The conversion deadlines are by 30th November (if you are planning to enroll MA6088 in subsequent Semester 2), or 30th May (if you are planning to enroll MA6088 in subsequent Semester 1)

    Course Details

    • Classes for MSc PM programme have a Blended Learning format. Please refer to the circulated Timetable for course details.

    Option of Study

    Students enrolled in the MSc (by coursework) programmes are allowed to choose to complete the programme of study by: 

     Option 1: Coursework and Dissertation; OR 

    Students must complete eight courses from the list of core and elective courses within the specified programme and submit a Dissertation on an approved project. 

     Option 2: Coursework Only (default)

    Students must complete ten courses from the list of core and elective courses within the specified programme. 

    *Please note that students will automatically be assigned the default Option 2 - Coursework Only. If you wish to apply for Option 1: Coursework and Dissertation, you must apply using the Application for Conversion of Option of Study Revised Jan 2024 form by Week 16th of your first Semester.

    Course Details 

    • Classes for our MSc programmes are usually held in the evenings (7pm to 9.50pm) on weekdays. Each course is covered in 39 hours and usually consists of 13 lectures of 3 hours each.
    • Each course comprises of seminars, lectures, laboratory sessions (for selected courses only), followed by a 3-hour written examination. 
    • Each course is designed to develop the understanding of subject areas, promote independent learning and to encourage group discussion. 
    • Continuous Assessment (CA) will also take place throughout the 13 teaching weeks of the course. The types of CA that course coordinator(s) may choose from include essays, assignments, quizzes, individual projects, group work, seminar presentations and etc. All CA grades will be taken into account in the calculation of the overall grade for the course.

    Examination

    Most examinations are held during office hours at the end of each semester. For more information on examinations process at NTU, please check the NTU Office of Academic Services website.
