If You're New to Computing
Starting From Zero Is Perfectly Fine
Don't worry if you've never written a line of code before. Many students begin their university journey with little or no prior computing experience, and our programmes are designed to help you build strong foundations from the ground up.
Before the semester begins, you may find it helpful to:
- Explore basic programming concepts using Python.
- Refresh your mathematical foundations, particularly algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics.
- Develop your logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Read about how computing and artificial intelligence are shaping the world around us.
You don't need to master everything before classes begin. Curiosity and a willingness to learn will take you much further than trying to memorise syntax.
If You Already Have Computing Experience
Build on What You Already Know
If you've studied computing before, you're already bringing valuable knowledge with you. Before the semester begins, consider revisiting some of the core concepts that underpin university-level computing.
You may wish to refresh your understanding of:
- Programming concepts and problem-solving.
- Data structures and algorithms.
- Databases.
- Computer networks.
- Software engineering principles.
You may also find it useful to revisit mathematical topics such as discrete mathematics, calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics, as these underpin many areas of computing.
University learning builds on these foundations while introducing new ways of thinking about computing, technology, and their impact on society.
