Six CML French students successfully obtain DELF Certification
Every language learner has a story, a reason why they started learning the language, a goal they’re chasing, and a journey worth celebrating.
This March 2026, we’re proud to celebrate six incredible students who recently passed their DELF exams, each with a precise goal for their future.
DELF B1
Beyond textbooks and grammar, Jaron Lim is motivated by the opportunity to converse with locals and to understand their way of life. Jaron hopes to travel to France again in the future to fully immerse himself in the local culture and to soak in the beauty of the country.
As a linguistics student, Gokul Rathakirushnan deemed that learning a language would prove beneficial for his studies, so he decided to give French a try. After the success of the introductory course, he became increasingly motivated to deepen his understanding of the language and the cultures associated with it. This led him to explore French culture through music and literature. Beyond the classroom, Gokul hopes to leverage his French skills to create meaningful opportunities and experiences within the Francophone world.
DELF A2
Following her A-Levels, Lim Ying Xi began a dedicated pursuit of the French language, a journey sparked by a lifelong fascination with French fashion and literature. Driven by the belief that reading a work in its original language provides the truest insight into an author’s intent, she seeks to move beyond translation. For Ying Xi, mastering French is a gateway to understanding the cultural nuances and the distinct philosophical outlook of the French people.
DELF A1
Inspired by a love for languages, Grace Siswanto decided to take up French to expand her worldview. After completing French Level 1, she felt motivated to take up the challenge of completing DELF A1. Grace hopes that this certification will serve as a stepping stone to exciting opportunities for her to study or work abroad.
Even before he started learning French, Frederick Nathanael Ginting was always fascinated by its pronunciation. He is also interested in languages and linguistics, and he sees French as a good first step towards learning a lot of European languages. On top of that, he is drawn to the strong French influence on art and food, especially French pastries, which makes him want to explore the culture more deeply through the language. DELF A1 is a first step for his language-learning journey as he hopes to look for more opportunities.
The primary reason why Qingyang Li took DELF and learning French is simple: to understand Tintin in its original language. Tintin make up most of his childhood, and as he grows up, he knows that France is a place where modern politics and governments are born. To understand the history, nothing is better than learning French. After he went to LIP (language immerse program) in CLA, he saw arc en triomphe, statue of General de Gaulle and of course the Hergé Museum. He's planning on pushing his French studies further in the future.
To each of you: BRAVO and a heartfelt MERCI to all NTU dedicated Tutors and Jean, who accompanied these brilliant students in French along their way to success.

LJ5005 Students Excel in JLPT
Wesley is a final-year student enrolled in the Japanese language program at NTU’s Centre for Modern Languages. He began his Japanese learning journey during his polytechnic years in 2018, attending weekend Japanese classes consistently, which helped him build a strong foundation and qualify for the JLPT N5.
Following this, Wesley continued to develop his Japanese independently through self-study, online resources, and structured courses on platforms such as Udemy. His discipline and long-term commitment paid off when he successfully obtained the JLPT N2 certification in July 2025.
Recognizing that language proficiency goes beyond reading and listening skills, Wesley enrolled in NTU’s Japanese language classes to further strengthen his writing and speaking abilities. Through regular interaction with experienced Japanese instructors and active participation with classmates, he gained valuable feedback and opportunities to practice the language in meaningful contexts. His involvement in the Japanese Appreciation Club and activities such as the Japanese Corner also allowed him to engage with Japanese exchange students, discuss real-life topics, and build cross-cultural friendships.
Wesley is deeply grateful for the learning opportunities provided through NTU’s Japanese language program, which have played a significant role in his language development.
Sebastian began his Japanese language journey after high school at Hougang Japanese Language School. After a two-year break for National Service, he resumed his studies during his second year at NTU, where he enrolled in LJ5003 while continuing his Japanese studies at HJLS. In July 2025, he passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N4 with an excellent score of 165/180.

Six CML Students Achieve Success in DELF French Examinations
The CML French lecturers warmly congratulate the NTU French students who successfully passed their French Diplomas (DELF) recently.
1. Clarence Sim took the DELF B2 to open doors for living and working abroad, inspired by his love for travel. Dreaming of a future in countries like France or Canada, Clarence sees the DELF as a passport to global opportunities. A language immersion program at CLA Besançon helped accelerate his progress.
2. Tan Ken-i pursued the DELF B2 with a specific goal: working in Toulouse, the hub of the aerospace industry. He is also thinking long-term; should he choose to teach or pursue further studies, the B2 certification will grant him access to French universities.
3. Kong Zheng Yao has been passionate about foreign languages for years, leading him to study French for the last four. Having recently attained his DELF B2, Zheng Yao views language mastery as the key to cultural integration and career success, whether he is working in France or pursuing a path in international business or translation.
4. Erica Ho has always been curious about learning new languages. CML has helped her to expand her horizons in both learning the language and fully immersing in French culture. She got to know her host family in Besançon during the language immersion programme which sustains her passion for the French language. She obtained DELF B1, landed a job in the Embassy of France in Singapore, and continues to pursue DELF B2. It has come to her realisation that language skills are vital in the world of diplomacy and even influence her world view as a whole.
5. Parvathi Prajeesh has been learning French since secondary school and continued to sharpen her skills through the LF5005 to LF5007 courses at NTU. Her DELF B2 certification paves the way for future opportunities to study or work in France.
6. Jolynne Tan began her French journey with a dream of pursuing a master’s degree in France. Now in her final year at NTU, she brilliantly passed the DELF A2 after completing only Level 1 at CML. Thanks to her hard work and the incredible support of her lecturer, Francesca Manganelli, she reached this milestone after just 36 contact hours.
To each of you: SUPERBE! We are truly impressed and wish all our students’ dreams come true in 2026.

Three NTU Students Have Been Awarded a France Excellence Master’s Scholarship
In 2025, three NTU students have been awarded the prestigious France Excellence Master’s Scholarship to pursue their graduate studies in France. While one is advancing in Molecular Biology, two others are deepening their expertise in Mathematics at Université Paris-Saclay and Paris Dauphine - PSL.
Among them, Yicheng Zhu, a recent graduate in Mathematical Sciences from NTU, is now based in Paris where she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied and Theoretical Mathematics at Université Paris Dauphine – PSL. Her interest in Airbus, a global leader in aerospace, was longstanding. NTU Student Fiona Ho Achieves DALF C1 in French!
The entire French teaching team is very proud to celebrate NTU student Fiona Ho, who achieved the DALF C1 level in French as of March 2025.
The DALF C1 certifies an advanced, near-native command of the French language and is recognised around the world by universities and employers alike.
Fiona’s love for French began in a unique way—with the musical Mozart, l’Opéra Rock. Captivated by the songs, she began learning the lyrics and singing them on her own, and that passion soon turned into a deeper interest in the language itself.
With an exchange at Sciences Po on the horizon, Fiona felt inspired to challenge herself even further by sitting for the DALF C1 exam. Today, she can very confidently discuss complex scientific topics in the language, and her longer-term goal is to pursue a PhD in Chemistry at Sorbonne University in Paris.
