Singapore workers more willing to return to offices if commute times and crowdedness on trains were reduced, finds NTU Singapore study

A study by NTU Singapore has uncovered some reasons why workers in Singapore are reluctant to return to the office as pandemic work-from-home restrictions are eased. Travelling to work on crowded trains was the biggest deterrent, followed by long commute times, the NTU scientists found. A/Prof Wong Yiik Diew and his final-year student Muhammad Sofian Mohamed Tahir conducted the study involving 574 train commuters, from 31 Dec 2020 to 16 Jan 2021, and the demographics of the participants accurately reflected Singapore’s working population that commute via public transport.
