Congratulations to our award winners – Christofer Kristo, James Oh, and Jasper Low! This year, 37 NTU graduates who have demonstrated academic excellence will be awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medals.
The Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medals are awarded to top NTU graduates who are first in general proficiency throughout their respective programmes of study, and who have obtained Honors (Highest Distinction).

Christofer Kristo, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering)
An aspiration to create a sustainable living environment has continuously motivated Kristo in his Civil Engineering undergraduate studies. In addition to being a CN Yang Scholar, he was also awarded the CEE Admission Award (Platinum), Meinhardt Book Prizes in his first two years of study, placed on Dean’s List for three consecutive years, and won five Book Prizes for Top Performance in his courses.
Kristo also has industrial experience by interning at ARUP Geotechnical team where he assisted in a geotechnical review for an insurance claim adjuster. Furthermore, Kristo’s strong in research led him to embark on independent research under the CN Yang programme in his first two years, URECA in Year 3, and FYP-URECA in his final year.
These works resulted in an academic journal publication as a first author. He also received the CN Yang Research Award (Gold) and NTU President Research Scholar Award (Distinction) for his outstanding research works. Kristo has accepted an Engineering permanent role at ExxonMobil which he believes can mould him into a bridge between engineering and business to achieve sustainability.
James Oh Yong Jun, Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering)
James has completed the environmental engineering program with first class honors. He was placed on Dean’s list for AY 16 – 17 and was awarded with 4 Book Prizes for Top Performance in his course.
Besides performing academically, James learnt valuable hands-on skills through participating in URECA and Internship. During his internship in SCELSE, James aided in operating lab scale reactors and data analysis.
From this internship, he became interested in wastewater treatment and continued the project as the Final Year Project. Using the knowledge and skills learnt throughout the 4 years, James plans to work in the environmental engineering field to contribute towards a sustainable future.
Jasper Low Wei Loon, Bachelor of Science (Maritime Studies)
Having a strong enthusiasm for the Maritime industry, Jasper has achieved outstanding academic excellence during his four-year study and graduated with Highest Distinction. He was placed on the Dean’s list for two consecutive years and was awarded with the Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust Scholarship in 2016.
Jasper was a recipient of the MPA Global Internship Award and was attached to Teekay Corporation for his industrial attachment with an overseas stint in Sydney, Australia. Jasper did well in his Final Year Project by scoring distinction and achieved Book Prize for Quality Management in Shipping.
Having a strong hunger for learning, Jasper underwent two semester exchange programs at Singapore Management University and BI Norwegian Business School where he achieved distinction for two courses. Beyond curriculum, Jasper has developed strong interpersonal skill and critical thinking as he plays a part in giving back to society when serving in the NTU chapter of Conjunct Consulting.
Jasper is currently a trainee Shipbroker at Clarksons Platou. Looking forward, Jasper continues to never stop learning and aspire to make an impact in the Maritime industry.
