CEE student Hiew Wing Yian received the silver award at the 2023 Future Designer International Innovation Design Awards and Science for SDGs Innovation Contest

UNESCO inaugural 2023 Future Designer International Innovation Design Awards (IIDA) & Science for SDGs Innovation Contest solicit innovation and creative works from young people around the world to raise awareness of and advocate for the important role of Science, Engineering and STEM in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With their passion for sustainability, CEE final-year student Hiew Wing Yian and her teammate Jun Tung Lai (from Universiti Sains Malaysia) received the silver award for their project - Zephyr.

'Zephyr' - meaning 'a soft gentle breeze', achieved the goal of creating a more comfortable environment and enhancing the city's livability with the introduction of smart sensing and AI techniques in the field of hydraulics and water resources in the building industry.

The green roof design supports vegetation and urban biodiversity, the integration of IoT sensors into hydraulics and roof design will optimize water and energy use while enhancing urban cooling and biodiversity, the drainage will transformed into a smart system to address flash floods which ensures a resilient infrastructure.
