The Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies (CDPT) hosts research activities many areas of photonics, ranging from fundamental studies to device applications. Our research topics include:

  • Nanofabrication and growth techniques for photonic devices and materials
    By exploring new nanofabrication techniques and methods of growth, hybridisation and integration into different waveguide and fiber environments, we are developing ground-breaking solutions for optical switching, data processing, and light harvesting, featuring ultra-high-density and high-speed operation integration.
  • Waveguide- and fibre-based platforms for controlling and manipulating light at small length scales
    By advancing the physics of control, guiding and amplification of light in nanostructures, we are probing the ultimate limits of optical microscopy and metrology, such as methods for detecting spatial displacements in the deeply sub-wavelength regime.
  • Topological photonics
    Using advanced concepts originating in theoretical condensed matter physics, we are designing a novel class of photonic devices hosting "topological photonic states" with unprecedented robustness, such as light waves that can flow around defects without scattering.
  • Quantum control of light at the single- or few-photon level
    We are developing photonic devices that can generate, detect, and manipulate light at the most fundamental levels allowed by quantum physics, with implications for quantum sensing, quantum communications, and quantum computing.
