CDOIQ Asia-Pacific Symposium 2023: Shaping Data Leadership in Asia

The globally acclaimed Chief Data Officer & Information Quality (CDOIQ) APAC Symposium marked a significant milestone this year by venturing into Asia.

The globally acclaimed Chief Data Officer & Information Quality (CDOIQ) APAC Symposium marked a significant milestone this year by venturing into Asia.

Collaborating with Nanyang Business School, the 2023 edition took place at NTU Singapore on 17 and 18 May, offering both in-person participation and live streaming. Supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), this symposium was a highlighted event during the Singapore Privacy Awareness Week 2023, led by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).

With the theme of "Realising and evolving the role of CDO," the inaugural CDOIQ APAC Symposium brought together data leaders from academia, government, and industry to delve into the pressing data issues of the Asia Pacific region. Over two days, this event united seasoned CDOs, Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Chief Analytics Officers (CAOs), esteemed academics, and government representatives.

On Day 1, the event commenced with a warm welcome and opening remarks by notable figures such as Prof Luke Ong, NTU’s President of Research, and Dr Richard Wang, Founder & Executive Director of the CDOIQ Programme. The first keynote, "Intelligence and Protection from Singapore Government Perspective," was delivered by Mr. Yeong Zee Kin, Assistant Chief Executive at IMDA. Subsequent keynotes covered vital topics such as AI maturity and the impact of generative AI on business.

Day 1 also featured a panel discussion on "Challenges and Best Practices Associated with Data Quality and Privacy," with industry experts providing valuable insights.

The symposium showcased four eminent keynote speakers, 29 track speakers, and 8 panellists, engaging in thought-provoking discussions across three major tracks:

  • Track 1: Data Strategy and Management
  • Track 2: Analytics and AI Value Creation
  • Track 3: Data Ecosystems and Platforms

Day 2 witnessed a compelling keynote address by Prof. Andrew Burton Jones, focusing on "An Organizational Perspective on the Foundations of Information Quality for CDOs." A panel session, moderated by Prof Boh Wai Fong, emphasised "Data Governance and Ethics in the Practice of Analytics, Machine Learning, and AI," inviting experts to share their views and experiences.

The symposium showcased the corporate partners' booths, enabling industry leaders to connect and interact with the attendees during breaks and lunch.

In summary, the CDOIQ APAC Symposium 2023 activated and energised the data and analytics community in the Asia Pacific region. It elevated knowledge in data leadership, helping organisations ensure data quality and create impactful value for businesses through trustworthy data.
