​Congratulations to Associate Professor Danne Ojeda for receiving 2 Red Dot Awards in the book and exhibition design categories

The jury has highlighted her participation as “outstanding” for being a double award-winning in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2018, Germany.

From 28 October 2018 to 13 January, 2019 all awarded works are in exhibition in the Museum for Communication, Berlin.

About the awarded works

Vanitas
The book “Vanitas” is a contemporary interpretation of the eponymous Dutch paintings genre. The book is a literal portrait of its author’s skull and brain. With the help of the clinical technology of magnetic resonance imaging, MRI, the anatomic scans of the author’s skull and the brain become the content of the book. The result is a comprehensive representation of the architecture of the human mind, where such humanity appears paradoxically illegible. The hardcover book follows the size of the skull of its author.

Paper Brains
The interactive exhibition “Paper Brains” is a gaze into different reproductions and artistic interpretations of selected skulls and brains re-presentations. Largely based on the archive of the Special Collections Library, University of Amsterdam, the show approaches the question of how the human brain has been represented in books as a subject of study throughout different historical epochs. The exhibition layout follows the idea of presenting a book page in the floor of the gallery space, where its “images” are the displays to be interacted with, and text footnotes are literally “notes” brought to the “foot” of the public that steps into the show.
