​Opening of PULSE, an Interactive Installation by Assistant Professor Galina Mihaleva, Hedrun Sum, Pat Pataranutaporn, Kathrin Albers and Audrey Ng at Singapore Night Festival 2018 on 17 August, 7.30pm at the Armenian Church.

0182Pulse creates a playful, tactile playground for audiences to experience the digital interpretations of the urban landscape today. Interact with colourful visualisation projections through sound and voice in this immersive experience, and explore the installation’s reflections on the influence of digital technology and media in the present day. This installation is awarded under the Singapore Night Festival’s Open Call.

About the Artists

Galina Mihaleva
Assistant Professor in Design Art, Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media.
Galina Mihaleva’s interest in arts and fashion was sparked by her keenness to explore the extent to which we experience these elements in emotional, intellectual and sensual aspects, and how we might be able to accomplish a higher state of connectivity between the body, the clothing we wear, and the art we encounter on a daily basis.

Hedren Sum
A digital scholarship librarian at Nanyang Technological University, Hedren Sum has developed and led various local and international digital humanities projects with particular expertise in interface design, data organisation, archiving and data visualisation for access and discovery.

Pat Pataranutaporn
Pat Pataranutaporn is a creative biologist, designer, coder and a graduate student at MIT Media Lab who constantly strives to push boundaries in the digital and creative faculties. His works examine the symbiotic relationships between human and technology beyond traditional contexts, and ranges from using AI to cope with mental health issues on social media, making bioinspired devices to capture proteins from insects for the future of food, and designing mind-controlled 3D printers.

Kathrin Albers
Kathrin Albers embarked on her creative career as an illustrator based in Germany. She quickly found her passion in stop motion after entering the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. Her work has since captured audiences worldwide in countless animation festivals, and has received multiple awards in graphic design and animation.

Audrey Ng
Audrey Ng is a Masters student at Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media. Her current research aims to experiment and explore the endless possibilities that can be achieved by breaking boundaries of material application to create new techniques and shift the landscape of the fashion and product design fields.
