Lumiere Awards Winners 2018
Chrysalis took major prize for the Best 3D Short Animation at the Advanced Imaging Society’s Lumiere Awards on February 12th.
Presented by the Advanced Imaging Society (AIS), the awards were held at a gala evening celebration at the Steven J. Ross Theater at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California.
The Lumiere™ Awards recognize outstanding international achievement in the creation of immersive storytelling using advanced visual technologies like Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, High Dynamic Range, Stereo 3D, 360 Video, High Frame Rate, Artificial Intelligence, Real-Time Rendering and more. The Society honours innovative content and experiences produced for film, television, advertising, gaming, mobile, online and much more. Past Lumiere winners includes some of Hollywood’s biggest creative leaders, such as Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee, Victoria Alonso, Jon Favreau, and Jeffrey Katzenberg. Formed in 2009, The Advanced Imaging Society is a non-profit trade association whose members include Hollywood studios and technology companies industry’s creative stakeholders including The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, DreamWorks Animation (DWA), Sony, Paramount, IMAX, Dolby, Panasonic, and MasterImage.
Chrysalis opened the evening with 90 second long sequence.
“The old fable of the butterfly struggling to evolve was the perfect sequence to open the gala event and award ceremony tonight,” said AIS president and CEO Jim Chabin,“we personally wanted to screen the entire film but due to the time constraints we concluded to put extra effort to edit film to the best sequence possible to represent film’s message and to celebrate the event.”
In other awards, Blade Runner 2049,” pictured, won three prizes The Warner Bros. pic took home trophies for Best Live Action 3D Motion Picture, Best Live Action Motion Picture Stereography and Best 2D to 3D Conversion (with Stereo D). Disney-Pixar’s “Coco” received a pair of honors: Best 3D Animated Motion Picture and Best Animated Motion Picture Stereography. Disney’s “Be Our Guest” segment from “Beauty and the Beast” was recognized for Best 3D Sequence or Scene of the Year. In the HDR categories, Focus Features’ “Atomic Blonde” took the prize for Best Use of HDR in a Live Action Motion Picture, while Warner Bros.’ “The Lego Batman Movie” was awarded Best Use of HDR in an Animated Motion Picture, and Netflix’s “Chef’s Table” was recognized for Best Use of HDR in a Television Program. Netflix and MacInnes Scott were given the award for Best Augmented Reality Experience for the new streaming series “Altered Carbon.” Awards were also presented for Best VR Documentary, Best 3D Documentary Motion Picture, Best VR Game, Best Live Action VR, and more.
