Why do racial stereotypes persist?

Observers told The Sunday Times that the increase in mixed-race marriages is a positive trend of cross-cultural interaction and inclusion between communities. But they also acknowledge the persistence of problematic views centred on racial hierarchies and stereotypes. Singaporeans should also not be shocked at the enduring presence of racism, said Asst Prof Walid Jumblatt Abdullah from NTU, who noted that technology tends to amplify such attitudes. 

Asst Prof Laavanya Kathiravelu, a sociologist, noted the perception of public discussions about race becoming more acceptable. Having "proof" of racism may make it seem more legitimate to air grievances, she added.
