NTU School of Social Sciences Launches Inaugural Summer School on AI and Big Data in Finance
The School of Social Sciences (SSS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, has launched its inaugural Summer School, held from 5 to 15 July 2025. This programme brings together students from NTU and the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) to explore the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics in the fields of Economics and Finance.
The SSS Summer School 2025 offers a dynamic mix of academic instruction and real-world exposure. Students attend modules taught by Dr Ernie Teo from Nanyang Business School, covering AI, blockchain, and emerging technologies in finance, and Assistant Professor Seok Young Hong from SSS, focusing on big data applications in economic and financial analysis.
On 8 July, students visited the Global FinTech Institute, engaging with industry leaders on trends like green fintech, AI in finance, and regulations. The visit concluded with a CBD treasure hunt at SGX, OCBC, and the MAS building with their student ambassadors.
Beyond academics, the summer school emphasizes cultural exchange and experiential learning. Students will participate in a Heritage Tour this weekend to iconic sites such as Chinatown, Kampong Glam, Little India, and Merlion Park, thereby deepening their appreciation of Singapore’s diverse heritage.
Reflecting NTU's global outlook and commitment to interdisciplinary learning, the SSS Summer School is more than just a classroom experience—it is a platform for building international friendships, fostering intellectual curiosity, and exploring the intersection of technology, finance, and society in one of Asia’s top financial hubs.
The programme concludes on 15 July 2025 with a Closing Ceremony and Tea Reception, celebrating the participants’ shared journey of discovery and innovation.
