Introduction
Knowledge of language ontology is the basis of teaching Chinese as a second language. Upon completing this module, the students will have an in-depth understanding of the teaching of the contemporary Chinese vocabulary and grammar and the contemporary Chinese lexical items and sentences teaching.
Based on the principles of linguistics and language teaching, this course is divided into a number of topics. Instructor can choose the topics flexibly according to students' background and teaching goals to highlight the key points and strengthen their applicability.
2. The contemporary Chinese lexical items and sentences teaching.
This course is part of:
- Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Chinese Language
- FlexiMasters in Teaching and Learning Chinese Language
Learners must complete any three of the following courses to attain the Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Chinese Language (12 AU):
- MCL902 Topics on Chinese Language and Its Teaching (or MCL902A-C)
- MCL905 Character and Citizenship Education and its Pedagogy in Singapore Primary Schools (or MCL905A-C)
- MCL910 Chinese Language Testing and Assessment (or MCL910A-C)
- MCL911 Application of Information and Communication Technologies in Teaching and Learning of Chinese Language (or MCL911A-C)
Upon completion of the fourth set of courses, learners will fulfil the AU requirements to attain the FlexiMasters in Teaching and Learning Chinese Language (16 AU).

Participants are recommended to take the courses in the sequence A, B, and C as the contents of the latter courses build on the foundations of the earlier courses.
