Introduction

Design Thinking is a process that finds solutions to all sorts of challenges in a co-creative way by discovering and fulfilling unarticulated unmet needs. When you focus on doing what the customers need, you can deliver products or services that the customers truly want; thereby generating business growth.

Led by 2 Design Thinking consultants, this workshop will empower you with the creative confidence to embrace Design Thinking’s people-centred needs-driven mindset and apply its tools to achieve impactful outcomes. Design Thinking is more than attractive design; it is about making the world a better place by understanding people’s needs and meeting those needs.

This one-day workshop introduces the principles and methodologies of Design Thinking’s Empathy and Creativity phases to encourage people-centric innovations resulting in sustainable business growth. The workshop pedagogy comprises of a blend of interactive mini-lectures, group work, individual practice, and class discussions to deliver the following programme structure:

Mr Ken Kwan

Mr Ken Kwan

Ken’s unique talent lies in his ability to synergise his sharp analytical mind and creative spirit in order to create user-centric innovations for sustainable growth. Ken received his Bachelor in Business Administration with Honours from the National University of Singapore and was subsequently a NUS Scholar awarded by the university to pursue his Master of Science (MSc) in Research. 

Ken is uniquely trained in Business Design Thinking by the prestigious Rotman School of Management’s Rotman DesignWorks at the University of Toronto. Rotman has developed a curriculum built around Roger Martin's famous concepts on Integrative Thinking and Business Design, they are considered as one of the most influential management thinkers in the world.  Ken is certified by the University of Toronto to practice, facilitate and teach Business Design Thinking to SME’s and government agencies on a commercial and educational level in Singapore - an initiative driven by the Singapore government’s economic development board. 

Ken has dedicated more than ten years of teaching in Singapore Polytechnic as a full-time lecturer where he developed and taught modules and curriculum specialising in Statistics and Business Design Thinking. While at Singapore Polytechnic, he created the polytechnic’s 50th diploma specializing in Design Thinking for business called Diploma in Business Innovation and Design. 

In 2012 he played a critical role in the conceptualisation and setup of an online retail & editorial start-up company. In the same year, Ken founded The Curious People Pte Ltd; an innovation agency committed to helping enterprises grow their business by adopting the design thinking framework in business. 

Ken is also an adjunct professor lecturing on core modules such as market research, statistics for business and management decision sciences at Curtin University and the London School of Economics. 


Mr Alfred Chen

Mr Alfred Chen

Alfred is uniquely trained in Business Design Thinking by the prestigious Rotman School of Management’s Rotman DesignWorks at the University of Toronto. Alfred received his Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from Florida International University in Miami USA. Thereafter he was selected by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company to join them as a Market Research Analyst opening two of its hotels in New York City through the difficult period of 911. After spending 3 years in New York, he returned to Singapore where he continued his passion at The Ritz-Carlton Millennia Singapore and later went on to join luxury hospitality brands such as Raffles Hotels & Resorts and eventually opening Capella Hotel on Sentosa. His area of focus was Sales & Marketing, Special Events & Services, Total Quality Management (TQM), and the Talent Quality Selection Process (QSP). 

Alfred also dedicated four years to teaching in Singapore Polytechnic as a full-time lecturer where he developed and taught modules and curriculum specialising in Tourism, and Business Design Thinking. While at Singapore Polytechnic, he co-created the polytechnic’s 50th diploma specializing in Design Thinking for business called Diploma in Business Innovation and Design.
