Introduction

Public affairs is one of the most rapidly growing fields within communication management, mirroring the complex dynamics of policy and public engagement. This course, designed for communication practitioners and managers, explores the evolving role of communications in policymaking. 

Learners will be introduced to a blend of practical tools and strategies to refine their skills within the public policy landscape. Through interactive sessions, learners will delve into how effective communication can shape public opinion, influence legislation, and resonate with various audiences. 

The course also offers the opportunity to network with industry professionals, enhancing collaborative learning and growth. By the end of the course, learners will have sharpened their policy communication skills, gaining valuable insights into the intricate interplay between communication, policy, and public engagement, readying them for the modern world's ever-changing challenges.

By understanding the role of communication in public policy, learners will gain knowledge of the importance of effective communication in policymaking and implementation, and how communication strategies can help achieve policy objectives. At the end of the course, learners will be able to develop and execute strategic communication plans. This includes narrative framing, channel strategies, media strategies and stakeholder engagement. They will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to apply these strategies as part of their work.

 

 

By understanding the role of communication in public policy, learners will gain knowledge of the importance of effective communication in policymaking and implementation, and how communication strategies can help achieve policy objectives. 

This course is suitable for learners working/ intending to work in Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs), public sector or public policy areas in the media and communication industry. Human Resource (HR) and corporate communication employees should also attend this course.

Dr. Michele Khoo Cheng Hoon

Michele graduated with a PhD in Communication Studies and a Master of Mass Communication from Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University. She has been working in the government ministry in public communication as well as content development roles. Michele teaches as a part-time lecturer for the Master of Media and Communication Programme from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University, as well as other local universities. She enjoys sharing her wealth of experience gathered from working in the public and private sectors with her students.
