Introduction

This course is designed for information or knowledge professionals working or seeking to work at the managerial level in the knowledge economy. Learners will learn key principles, concepts, and practices of organizational information management applicable to information-intensive industries, including retail, manufacturing, finance, healthcare, library, government, IT, and education. The course will provide an understanding of information management strategies for achieving competitive advantage, promoting innovation, ensuring accountability, and facilitating sustainability reporting. Relevant and emerging information systems involving technologies such as data analytics, Internet of Things, and generative artificial intelligence (AI) will be introduced. Learners will also gain early insights into how information management is evolving to meet the needs of the future workplace, digital ethics, and shifting geopolitics.

This course will provide an overview of key principles, concepts, and practices of organizational information management, including architecture, processes, activities, and systems. Information management strategies for achieving competitive advantage, promoting innovation, ensuring accountability, and facilitating sustainability reporting will also be covered. The course equips participants with knowledge of relevant and emerging information systems involving technologies such as data analytics, Internet of Things, and generative AI. Participants will also gain early insights into how information management is evolving to meet the needs of the future workplace, digital ethics, and shifting geopolitics. Overall, the course is designed to offer participants a contemporary and future-ready understanding of organizational information management in the knowledge economy.

At the end of the course, CE learners will be able to:

  • Explain key principles, concepts, and practices in organisational information management.
  • Describe the roles of current and emerging information technologies such as data analytics, Internet of Things, and generative artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Adapt information management strategies to meet evolving needs, such as the future workplace, digital ethics, and shifting geopolitics.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop practical information management solutions.

    Associate Professor L.G. Pee

    L. G. Pee is an Associate Professor at Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University. She completed her Ph. D. in Information Systems and Bachelor of Computing at the National University of Singapore. Her research focuses on social informatics of knowledge, the interdisciplinary study of the interplay among emerging information technologies (IT), people, and culture in knowledge practices. Phenomena of interest include mutual shaping of knowledge work and artificial intelligence, lifelong learning in the digital age, and smart technologies for sustainable and resilient urbanisation. As a principal investigator, she has received more than SG$1,300,000 in research funding from government agencies as well as industry partners. She serves on the editorial review board of top information science journals such as International Journal of Information Management and programme committee of conferences such as International Conference on Information Systems. LG is among the World’s Top 200 Scholars (2020-2022) in Association of Information Systems’ Ranking. She has also received several most-cited paper recognitions, best paper awards, and the COVID-19 Learning Action Award by Association of Information Systems (AIS).
