Celebrating Milestones and New Beginnings

On Saturday, 24 May 2025, the NTU Academy for Professional and Continuing Education (NTU PACE) marked an important milestone with the largest-ever SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) graduation ceremony held to date. Hosted at the NTU@one-north Executive Centre, the event brought together more than 120 learners across five disciplines – Cloud Infrastructure, Software Engineering, UX & Digital Product Management, Digital Marketing, and Data Analytics – alongside representatives from 11 esteemed industry partners and members of the academic community. The occasion was one of reflection, celebration, and renewed purpose.

A Morning of Reflection and Inspiration

The ceremony commenced with a welcome address by Professor Boh Wai Fong, Vice President (Lifelong Learning & Alumni Engagement) at NTU, who delivered an inspiring speech to the graduating cohort. She acknowledged the profound changes shaping today’s workplace and reaffirmed the vital role of lifelong learning in navigating an increasingly dynamic employment landscape.

“Career transitions are no longer exceptional events; they are becoming the norm,” Professor Boh shared. “The ability to adapt, learn new skills, and pivot is not just advantageous – it is essential.”

 

 

She further highlighted the collaborative strength of the tripartite partnership between NTU, SkillsFuture Singapore, and industry partners, which has enabled nearly 1,000 Singaporeans to future-proof their careers through SCTP offerings. Graduates were reminded that they are now part of NTU’s Associate Alumni Network, with access to events, job boards, and continued learning opportunities.

Industry Perspectives : Gerald Tan, AVODAH People Solutions

A highlight of the ceremony was the keynote presentation by Mr Gerald Tan, Project Director at AVODAH People Solutions. Drawing on more than a decade of experience in career services and workforce transformation, Mr Tan delivered a dynamic and relatable address that likened career navigation to driving.

 

“We need to take control of the wheel, maximise near opportunities 20–30 metres ahead, check our blind spots, and stay focused on our longer-term goal as our GPS,” Gerald advised.

His "Five Perspectives" framework – Looking Back, Looking Ahead, Looking Around, Steering, and Staying Oriented – resonated strongly with attendees, offering a structured lens through which to understand and approach their career transitions.

Learner Voices and Industry Connections

A subsequent panel discussion featuring SCTP graduates provided rich insights into their individual journeys, challenges encountered, and personal growth experienced. Their stories reflected the programme’s core mission: to equip mid-career professionals with in-demand skills, self-assurance, and clarity of direction

This was followed by a formal certificate presentation by Professor Boh and a recruitment fair featuring leading employers such as Synapxe, Singtel, Tata Consultancy Services, Deutsche Bank, SCDF, Oh My Grad, Idemia Pte Ltd, Octopus 8, Seatrium, Zebra Technologies, and CloudMile. The fair served as an immediate avenue for graduates to connect with potential employers and explore roles aligned with their newly acquired expertise.

While the ceremony marked the culmination of an intensive learning journey, it also symbolised a fresh beginning. As Professor Boh aptly concluded:

“You have shown remarkable resilience and commitment to reach this milestone. Continue to invest in your growth, expand your networks, and remain open to new possibilities.”
