MAE student - Ee Qi Zhi Shawn emerging as the runner up in the IMechE Speak Out for Engineering Competition

IMechE (SOFE) Speak out for Engineering Competition is a presentation competition on Engineering and Shawn's winning presentation was titled:  "Motion Simulators:  The art of fooling our senses."

Shawn shared how in recent years, an increasing amount of interest has poured in towards motion simulators. This growing demand can be attributed to several factors, including travel restrictions due to Covid-19 leading to a booming entertainment industry, and the need for virtual training in aviation.  He also discussed notable applications of motion simulators, how they have positively impacted human society, the evolution of motion sensors over the decades, the origins and notable breakthroughs that made this technology what it is today.

 

Before ending the presentation with potential applications for motion simulators and how this technology can positively impact human lives/society, he shared the science of how human physiology perceives motion.
