MAEAA AGM 2018
MAEAA alumni from more than 3 decades of classes make up alumni of several generations. Having grown up in
Singapore, one thing that we would fondly remember would be a warm weekend breakfast with our friends or
families at a neighbourhood MacDonald’s, or having attended a friend’s birthday party or have had a party thrown
for ourselves at MacDonald’s. This year, MAEAA held their annual general meeting (AGM) in a childhood
reminiscing style. MAE Alumni from various classes brought their friends and families to a gathering over breakfast
at Kallang Macdonald’s, where the MAEAA Exco for 2016-2018 passed the baton to a newly-organized team who
will bring the alumni association to greater heights in the years 2018 to 2020. The AGM meeting was held in a
classic Macdonald’s children’s party room, which gathered much excitement from attendees, some of which were
children of fellow MAE alumni. Alumni themselves were similarly excited to attend the ‘party’ and sit on small
chairs in the cosy room, as events organized over the past 2 years were summarized and the incoming committee
was voted in. The greatest excitement was when breakfast sets were trolleyed into the party room and served to
accompany the remaining of the meeting.
VIPs, Ms Christine Chua from the NTU Alumni Affairs Office and Assistant Professor Marcos, Assistant Chair
(Students), School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, who is also currently Advisor to the MAE Alumni
Association showed tremendous support and encouragement to the team with their interactive speeches, followed
by the address from the outgoing MAEAA President Ms Jean Chan, and incoming President Mr Kho Yu Cheng. A
central theme from the addresses were the appreciation to fellow alumni who have supported the activities
organized by the MAEAA over the many years since the AA was set up more than 10 years ago, as active
participation and interaction among the alumni has allowed the continued extension of an alumni network which is
very important to keep the MAE alumni community knitted across the generations. The MAE alumni network is also
very valuable for sharing of experiences and knowledge as we interact with fellow peers from similar or
complementing industries. It is also greatly heart-warming that fellow alumni shared the similar experiences from
staying in ‘Pulau NTU’, or having been through the memorable hardship modules during their university days.
As breakfast is wrapped up, the crowd was ushered onto a bus which brought everyone to Sentosa to continue the
fun for the rest of the day at Universal Studios Singapore. While split into smaller groups, it was a great opportunity
for alumni who have not met in a long-time to catch up while queueing for the USS rides, and then to enjoy bowls of
hot delicacies at the nearby Malaysian Food Street into the night.
The MAEAA welcomes all alumni to join us in our various activities, and also to suggest ideas which may just become
the next mass activity that the AA would organize for all alumni. join us to be informed of events next-up at our
